Frigiliana
Frigiliana has it all. Surrounded by the Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park, providing the dramatic backdrop of mountains whilst still a few kilometres from the Mediterranean coast. Mountains and walking trails are part of everyday life in Frigiliana. Watch the elders of the village and realise that this is a Blue Zone. We are surrounded by nature. Avocados, mangoes, papaya, oranges, lemons, and of course, olives are everywhere. Every Season has its own unique feel. Even when it’s raining, the smell of the pine trees drifts through the village and countryside. We are truly blessed. At Número 71, there are beautiful views of both mountains and sea. This charming town is steeped in history and has been awarded the most beautiful town in Andalucia on many occasions. As you wind through the narrow streets, the town people pride themselves on their homes, flower-filled balconies and colourful doors abound, and you’ll also notice the large plaques which tell the story of the last battles of the Moors in the area. (Ask at the tourist office for a guided tour by the lovely Maria, she has a wealth of knowledge.) In the 16th century, it was the site of a key conflict during the Rebellion of the Alpujarras, when Moriscos resisted Christian rule. The largest festival in August celebrates its Christian, Muslim and Jewish heritage. It is also known for its production of cane honey (miel de caña), still made at the Ingenio San Antonio. The factory opens its doors only one day a year on the 1st of May, the day of honey ( Dia de la Miel de Caña). You often see film crews in the old village; two films have recently been on Netflix, Mango and Dos Tombos.
Frigiliana Pool
The municipal pool in Frigiliana is a short five-minute walk from Número 71. Open from mid-June to mid-September and is only €2 a day! Not any old municipal pool, with views out to the mountains and great food and drinks are available from the attached cafe.
Local buses
The local buses are excellent, and the cost is only €1.30 from Frigiliana to Nerja and return. Tickets for this bus can be purchased on the bus, and it takes 15/20 minutes. The bus stop is at the start of the village next to the children's playground.

You can also get buses to various places, including Malaga and Granada, from the bus station in Nerja. Tickets for these can be purchased at the bus station or through the Alsa website or app.

The iconic Alhambra Palace is a wonderful place and a must- see in the wonderful city of Granada, with its historic Moorish quarter with narrow winding streets and whitewashed houses, it's a UNESCO World Heritage area.
Nerja
The Nerja Caves are spectacular and one of the most impressive natural attractions in Southern Spain. Discovered by a bunch of teenagers exploring in 1959, they stretch for several kilometres with vast underground stalagmites and stalactites and prehistoric cave paintings.
Malaga
Malaga city isn’t just an airport destination, it’s a great city with a mix of culture, history and restaurants. The Picasso Museum, The Centre Pompidou, houses bold art in a colourful cube by the vibrant port, which is full of trendy bars and restaurants. Malaga Cathedral is an impressive Renaissance building, and the Alcazaba Moorish palace and fortress is a walk away. There's also a great food market, Atarazanas Market, which is great for tapas, local produce, and a lively buzzing atmosphere. There are also many traditional tapas bars and modern restaurants. Calle Larios is full of shops, boutiques and cafes.
Sierra Nevada
Sierra Nevada Ski Resort is the southernmost ski resort in Europe, and its season is roughly December through to April. There are over 100 km of ski runs, and on clear days you can see the Mediterranean and even Africa from the mountains. You can literally ski in the morning and sunbathe on the coast in the afternoon.
Marbella
If you fancy mixing with the rich and famous in Marbella, Puerto Banus is about one and a half hours away. The Old Town Marbella is really pretty, with a beautiful square surrounded by orange trees.
